Music at Church of the Epiphany
At Church of the Epiphany, music is a vibrant and essential part of our worship and community life. It helps us connect with God and each other in powerful, joyful ways. Whether through ancient chant, global rhythms, or favorite hymns, our music ministry offers something for everyone.
Joyful. Welcoming. Spirit-Filled.
Our music ministry is under the direction of Peter Schultz, Minister of Music and Liturgy, and Sandy Mullaney, Minister of Handbells and Handchimes. With their leadership and the dedication of our many talented musicians and choir members, we offer a rich and varied musical experience that enhances our liturgy and welcomes all voices.
Wednesday Night Rehearsals
During the program year, singers and instrumentalists gather on Wednesday evenings to prepare music for our Sunday worship. High holy days feature more traditional instrumentation, choir anthems, processionals, and recessionals. On regular Sundays, a worship band brings together guitar, ukulele, flute, percussion, keyboard, and piano to lead joyful, inclusive congregational singing.
Music Style and Spirit
Our worship blends traditional Episcopal liturgy with global music, chants from Taizé and Iona, and contemporary expressions of faith. We celebrate diverse musical traditions and appreciate both structured hymns and simple, repeatable melodies learned by heart.
Handbell & Chime Ministries
Our bell ministry is an important and joyful part of life at Epiphany, offering opportunities for all ages and skill levels to make music together:
- Jubellation Bell Choir – An advanced group that rehearses weekly and rings monthly in worship, with occasional outreach and festival opportunities.
- InterGenerational Bells – A fun, low-pressure group where families and friends of all ages ring together in six-week sessions—no experience needed!
- Sunday School Chimes – Young children learn to ring with their classmates and share their music during worship.
